Dress 5 : Come a Chameleon

So it’s the start of another week and as explained in my video post this week I will be wearing dresses that I have been given from other girls who either didn’t like them after they bought them, didn’t have space in their closets anymore (yes I take in strays) or were moving overseas and needed to make sacrifices (I do my bit to save dresses from ending up without a good home!).

Today’s dress comes from Kirsty.

When I moved high schools at the age of 14 I was extremely happy to be leaving behind knee high socks and an all-girls school.  When I did arrive first day at my new co ed high school with knee high socks, disruptive boys in class and girls with ankle socks I cried to my mum to send me back.  I was so excited to get out of the enforced textiles class of my previous school and into a graphics class until I realised at this school all the girls did textiles and the boys did graphics I again cried to my mum to send me back!  Believe me I never thought I’d be begging to go back to an all-girls catholic high school in my life!!  But that school was hours away from my new home so my mum told me to stick with it.  I’m glad she did because that was how I met Kirsty!

What I didn’t realise was that there was a silver lining to this graphics class; there were actually a few girls.  Kirsty and I quickly became friends sharing pencils, protractors and a love of Sister Act.  Through High school she was either at my house painting my nails or I was at hers swimming in the pool singing to Shania Twain.  Meeting Kirsty turned me around .. literally I was no longer wanting the all-girls high school and quite content to overlook the boys ruffing each other up and being yelled by the teacher constantly and as soon as I got some ankle socks and met a few other of the girls I knew I would be ok!
After High school we went to the same University and even lived in California together working at Disneyland for 6 months.  Even when I returned to the USA we still remained in email contact weekly.  Sharing stories of work ups and downs, broken hearts and hopes for the future.  She was one person who knows me better than most and I know we both will be there for each other no matter what.  She is also my partner in crime with my new shopping adventures at lunch time!  Coming home its been great to know our friendship has survived 15 plus years and I hope we are still out shopping for dresses in years to come.

This dress was passed onto me when she was having a garage sale at her Nana’s house.  Kirsty is extremely creative and has great ideas so decided to also bring some of her things to add to her Nana’s collection.  I saw this dress hanging in the garage (well it was a garage sale) and said to her .. “um why are you getting rid of that it is so adorable?!” and she explained she had actually never worn it!! Two minutes later the dress was mine!!!
I love this dress!!  It is a chameleon of dresses.  It is quite plain so you definitely need to bling it up with some accessories but since being with me I have tried to give it some exciting times. It has been to surprise birthday parties, drinks with the girls and was even the dress I was wearing the night I met my last ex-boyfriend.  So thank you Kirsty for giving me such a cute dress I hope I have done you proud!!

Day 5
Dress: Grey Chameleon
Bought: 8 months ago
Price Range: $10 (Garage sale price .. not sure on origional)
Where bought: Kristy’s Grandma’s garage sale
What I like about it: This dress has an interesting texture from the plain material at the top to the satin material at the bottom. It truly is a chameleon that you can add accessories to, to change the dress each time. I also like the fact it looks cute with a jacket on or off!
